Everything is Lost in Love

Enjoy this beautiful doha based on a poem by 13th century female mystic Hadewijch of Antwerp. In this doha, Hadewijch speaks of being a slave of love. I do not know the identity of the ‘She’ that has subjugated her.

The 13th century female mystic Hadewijch of Antwerp wrote of being the slave of love. This song is from one of her poems on this subject.

Formerly, I was rich.
But everything is lost in love.
Nothing of myself remains, everything is lost in love
Love has subjugated me and to me this is no surprise,
For she is strong and I am weak.
She unmakes me and makes me free of myself,
Continually and against my will
she does with me what she wishes;
Nothing of myself remains to me; everything is lost in love
Formerly I was rich but everything is lost in love.
Nothing of myself remains, everything is lost in love
Nothing of myself remains to me;
Love has subjugated me
and to me this is no surprise.
