I’ve been following Laurie Brown’s DJ work since she started The Signal, a late night CBC music radio show several years ago. The Signal featured off-beat and lesser known Canadian artists doing ambient, experimental, new classical, dream pop and weirder folk music. In 2016, Brown launched Pondercast which continued to explore ambient and experimental music, but as a podcast independent of public broadcasting. Pondercast is an exploration of the art of listening, connecting the experience of listening to one’s interior life. Since the onset of the Pandemic, Brown’s Pondercast has taken a deeper and more ponderous turn, into contemplative territory with guided meditations, and explorations of the limits of consciousness.
