Indigenous Activists Peaceful Occupation of INAC Offices
As many as 20 Indigenous grassroots and Black Lives Matter activists began a peaceful occupation of the Toronto office of Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC), demanding that the federal government take action following the suicide crisis in Attawapiskat. (source)
What began yesterday as a handful of Indigenous Community Organizers has quickly spread across Turtle Island.
These actions are in support of the community of Attawapiskat who have declared a state of emergency to deal with a dire suicide crisis, and in support of all communities struggling against the ongoing legacies of colonialism.
The protestors demand immediate attention from the Prime Minister on the situation in Attawapiskat. Indigenous people want to see the youth needs implemented immediately, and for Canada to fulfill its treaty obligations to First Nations People.
Activists are calling for support in solidarity with Attawapiskat, #OccupyINAC & #GroundZeroINAC occupiers.
