Thanissara: ICE & US Fascism

Dispatch from the Transnational Capitalist Coup. (Part One)

by Thanissara

This last July 4th marked 249 years of the U.S. as an entity, and its funeral. With Trump’s Big “Ugly” Bill, instead of fireworks and celebrations, we felt its icy chill heralding the demise of America’s constitutional ideal of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Many who voted for Trumpism are beginning to experience significant losses, including being deported by ICE. One of the most monstrous effects of the bill is the transfer of an eye-watering $170Bn to turn ICE into a sprawling, unaccountable militarized police force, primed to disappear, imprison, and deport en masse. In effect, it sets the stage for building the infrastructure of a ruthless fascist regime.

In a blink of an eye, a treacherous deformed world is landing with concentration camps, censorship, intense media gaslighting, and a masked, secret, militia, marching through suburbs, terrorizing people shopping in Walmart, in schools, on the streets, in parks, in their homes, and those attending scheduled court appointments to pursue their legal right to gain citizenship. The irony of all this is that the U.S. is a country of immigrants who violently stole this land from its Indigenous population and Mexico. Yet, one of the many toxic entitlements of white supremacy, unless consciously engaged, is never having to acknowledge our status as immigrants and the devastating multiple impacts of Eurocentric colonial history.
