Today, January 20th, 2025, in Washington, DC, the U.S. Republic, as we know it, felt like it ended–leaving us free-falling into the predatory, narcissistic, dystopian world of Trump and Co’s oligarchic, feudalistic, corrupt, patriarchal, white supremacist State. 

Today also marked the inauguration of an attempt to utterly destroy humanity’s higher dream–a dream now ceremonially sacrificed on their toxic, fetid altar of greed, hatred, and delusion.

This perverse inversion aims to obliterate humane values, hard-won rights, protections, and the hope for an evolved world. The essential meaning of inaugurate–consecrate and install under good omens–is now meaningless. In a devastating act of betrayal, those in power, consumed by narcissism, show not even a flicker of concern for the children they condemn to a dystopian future of surveillance, oppression, neo-feudalism, and accelerating climate and social collapse.

In this devolving world, everything is moving faster and faster in a dizzying vortex of confusion, amplified by mainstream media, now almost entirely owned by billionaire oligarchs. Even previously reliable news sources succumbed to distorting reality, gaslighting the public, and rarely connecting the dots to reveal deeper causes and the broader picture. Stark signs of climate collapse are reported as isolated incidents or unusual weather events instead of undeniable evidence that a catastrophic environmental breakdown is underway. What goes unrecorded is that our multiple environmental crises will soon result in an unlivable planet if there is no radical course change. 

Over the past fifteen months, countless headlines have depicted the horror in Gaza as if it exists in a vacuum–avoiding accountability by failing to identify those responsible for perpetuating this grotesque nightmare. This disconnection from reality and distortion of truth is intentional. Like a magician’s trick, our focus skims the surface, trying to make sense but left isolated and overwhelmed as we struggle to identify any cohesive plan or positive vision. 

No realistic vision for the future is ever laid out in Trumpian land because they don’t intend to create a future for humanity. Their only concern is power, dominance, and their own survival. As malignant narcissists, Trump’s elites see themselves as separate from our common destiny. They will inherit what’s left of the world, ruling from their bunkers, with robots doing their bidding, unencumbered by the needs of ordinary people. Meanwhile, we “the people” must scramble to stay afloat economically, manage societal breakdown, and respond to climate emergencies.

This manufactured disintegration undermines our agency as citizens and aids the incoming regime, which has declared its intention to replace democracy with a corporate oligarchy. They aim to create an undereducated servant class incapable of distinguishing truth from lies. To grasp what’s happening, we should abandon the idea of this being a political party. Instead, it makes more sense to view the Trump/Musk phenomenon as a cult emotionally and spiritually bonded to its leaders rather than as a critically discerning and citizen-empowered political movement with a clear conscience. 

Cults cannot tolerate truth-telling. Stephen Hassan, an American mental health professional, cult expert, and author of The Cult of Trump, explains that constant confusion and information overload are core tactics of mind control. Trump is a master of this, unleashing a relentless stream of disturbing, toxic, senseless, and absurd narratives–all designed to overwhelm and obliterate sanity and truth.

Trump epitomizes the traits of an authoritarian cult leader: blatant lies, the manipulation and distortion of information, an unquenchable thirst for power, and a total lack of empathy or kindness. A dangerous spell-maker, he takes pleasure in revenge and cruelty while demanding unwavering loyalty. Have you noticed? Dystopian autocrats provide no positive vision. They cannot co-create, collaborate, or construct anything hopeful. Instead, they offer merely a grey, monotonous, violent, and self-destructive path to ruin. That’s it—nothing beautiful, ever.

Politics has always been a battle of egos, but at least some individuals with morals and values made a difference. That’s over. We now face a cold-hearted oligarchy–an inflated ego-fest where the worst individuals wield the most power. Instead of uplifting humanity, they’re intent on driving the world off this cliff of late-stage colonial capitalism in their final race to the bottom. If that means bending the knee, so be it. The lawyer for Meta just resigned, citing Mark Zuckerberg’s “descent into toxic masculinity and neo-Nazi madness.”

Today, all of this was legitimized when the U.S. anointed a craven, mentally unstable serial offender to the world’s most powerful political seat–a man facing 78 felony charges and overwhelming evidence of seditious conspiracy. This loveless child-man inhabits a warped reality in which he builds self-serving sandcastles to secure his next transactional “victory.” Meanwhile, the world burns.

Knowing all this means we are awakening fast. The veils are lifting, and the bandages are being ripped away from the decaying flesh of the empire. It’s excruciating. The Hollywood sign may have escaped the LA fires, but it has already burned symbolically. We’ve been dreaming of a world built on myths, but the dream–romancing cotton candy stained with the blood of innocents–lasted too long.
