I did my first phone bank for Kamala today. I’d like to tell you about it so you know what to expect.

First, I would suggest that you attend one of the Zoom phone bank trainings offered by the Harris HQ team several times a day. Even if you’ve done phone banking before, as I have, every system is a bit different. The trainings help you understand the technology and go through the script. Once I got through the training, I started by doing 10 phone calls, just to get a feel for it. Most of the calls were wrong number or hung up. But I did get to talk to a few people who were undecided voters, and two who were leaning toward Harris. So that’s typical of most phone-banking experiences.

You don’t have to stress yourself making dozens of calls. Make a few calls, breathe, rest, relax, and then go back into the dial-in platform and make a few more. The platform provides a 10-20 second pause in between calls so you feel ready to call again. During that pause period, you can take as long as you like to pause, and then hit the “continue” button for a new call.
