Happy Birthday! Engage! Turns 5

I’ve been looking back over my blog posts for an upcoming publication and discovered that I posted the first article on June 10, 2014. So Happy Fifth Birthday Engage! Five years of this long march out of institutional Buddhism, back when it was engagedbuddhism.net, to engageddharma.net, from post-Buddhist refugee into dharma artist (?) Not sure, but outside of all Buddhist institutions, the road ahead looks wide open. Freedom is scary.

My new goal is to deinstitutionalize my mind from all the ways that institutional Buddhism has shaped my thinking over the past 10 years (I started practicing in 2009). I want to get to a place where I can jam with the dharma, to free associate and create some really new and imaginative works of text and music that are totally liberating. Where I’d like to focus my practice of ‘engaged dharma’ is cultural engagement.
