The Honey Bee Network: Grassroots Innovation

The Honey Bee Network finds innovative technologies created by people in poor, marginalized and adverse conditions to solve their own problems of living, and ‘pollinates’ or spreads that innovation to people in similar situations around the globe, in a ‘grassroots to global’ model. Many innovations are also ‘scaled up’ in conventional markets for widespread use in more affluent regions. The Honey Bee initiatives create markets and incomes for the inventors. Anil’ s perspective is that poor people are poor in resources, but rich in knowledge and creativity.

Anil Gupta created the Honey Bee Network to support grassroots innovators who are rich in knowledge, but not in resources. Anil Gupta is on the hunt for the developing world’s unsung inventors — indigenous entrepreneurs whose ingenuity, hidden by poverty, could change many people’s lives. He shows how the Honey Bee Network helps them build the connections they need — and gain the recognition they deserve.
