On using Buddhism like a drug: Meditation actually makes you feel and experience everything more intensely. So when you feel this intensity, you can do either one of two things: you can either withdraw from the world and go into a cocoon of endless retreats, numbing yourself out with still more meditation, running marathons, or escaping into feel good, soothing psycho-babble dharma; and that’s using Buddhism as a drug. Or instead, you can get into the punk dharma. Let meditation give you the courage to throw yourself into the full impact of reality and feel and experience everything more intensely than you ever have in your life. That’s what I call awakening. . . I also call it “hyper-sobriety.” Josh Korda calls it the punk dharma.
